KARACHI: Days after exempting the parents of summer vacation fee burden, the Sindh government on Friday announced waiving exam and enrollment fee of matriculation and intermediate students residing at the registered orphanages in the province.

"Government of Sindh will bear the enrollment, registration and annual examination expenses for all orphans living in the registered orphanages of Sindh," said a notification issued by the universities and boards department.

Government of Sindh notification

Approved by Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, the notification sought immediate implementation.

CM restrains govt schools from collecting examination fee

Concerned educational boards have been informed about the decision while a letter to gather the exact number of matric and intermediate students at the registered orphanages of Sindh is also being drafted to the provincial Welfare Department.

The Sindh government, earlier in April, waived the enrollment and examination fee of matriculation and intermediate students registered at public schools and colleges.

Undeterred, private schools charge summer vacation fees

The government has paid Rs1.7 billion to the public educational boards in this regard, while an increase of Rs2 billion for this purpose is also expected in the forthcoming provincial budget.

According to sources, the Sindh government is considering to rid the first to tenth grade orphan students of their private school tuition fee as well.

If this decision is finalised, the government will bear the tuition expenses of the said students.
