CM restrains govt schools from collecting examination fee

Govt to bear enrolment, examination fee of students at public sector educational institutions

KARACHI: The provincial government will bear all expenses relating to the examinations of classes IX to XII of all students enrolled in public sector educational institutions. Therefore, no government school is entitled to collect the examination fee.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah made this announcement on Wednesday after taking notice of media reports claiming that schools were collecting examination fee from students of classes IX and X on the grounds that the government had not issued any notification restraining them from doing so. The CM made it clear that he had issued clear directives and had approved the budget for the purpose. The school education department had also issued a notification regarding this on April 20.

"All schools are hereby directed to stop collection of registration, enrolment and annual examination fee from students enrolled in government schools," Shah said, adding that he would not tolerate any negligence in this regard and strict action would be taken against delinquents.



The notification issued for the purpose on April 20 reads, "With the approval of the competent authority the school education department will bear all the expenses relating to registration, enrolment and annual examination fees for all the students of classes IX to XII enrolled in public sector educational institutions in the province of Sindh with immediate effect".

Through the school education secretary, the CM has issued directives to all government schools to implement the notification in letter and spirit.
