ISLAMABAD:
An intermediate student, who had lost his roll number slip, was not allowed even to enter the examination centre by security guards even though the student could prove his identity.

Abdul Wahab, a candidate for the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC)-II, was shocked when security guards at a school, where he was supposed to appear for his paper, did allow him inside the examination centre at 8:40 am on April 25 because he had lost his roll slip.

He requested the security guards to let him enter and attempt his Pakistan Studies paper.

Usually, every student is allowed to enter the centre and the invigilators check roll number slips while entering the examination halls. However, in this case, the student was not allowed to even enter the centre or speak to the teachers.

The student rushed to his college, the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College in Sector H-8 to get a duplicate copy of his roll slip. But by the time he got back to the school where his centre was with a duplicate roll slip, it was 9:30 am.

Wahab claimed that the incident affected his performance in the paper.

Officials said that four other candidates, appearing for different papers at the same centre, had to face a similar problem.

When candidates contacted the administration of the Sector H-8 college, a teacher at the college approached the administration of the private school but he was not allowed to meet the school administration.

The teacher then approached the deputy controller (conduct) at the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and registered a formal complaint the next day.

While students lose their roll slips along with their stationary, schools are provided with other measures to confirm the identity of students. Centre superintendents are provided with a list of all the candidates scheduled to appear in the paper complete with photos of the candidates by the FBISE.

In March, due to the parade rehearsals and road blocks, many students were late in reaching the examination halls late and the invigilators refused to allow them in and attempt the matriculation exams.
