Lemon Cleansing
Lemon is widely considered a bleaching agent. It is a great, free of cost tan removal remedy. For normal to oily skin types, applying straight to the face would work amazingly. However, for dry skin types, it is recommended to mix lemon juice with honey. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off. It is recommended to follow the process twice a week.
Sugar Body Scrub
Sugar scrubs are possibly the easiest homemade scrubs to use and prepare. All you need is a little bit of brown or white sugar and some oil. Coconut and olive oil both work amazing on the skin. Mix all the ingredients together and store in a convenient air tight jar. You can use it in the shower and rinse afterwards. It leaves the skin feeling velvety soft and smooth.
Cold Showers
As much as a hot bath sounds relaxing, a cold shower is what you need to switch to during the summer season. Hot water tends to further dry out the skin, whereas cold water after excess sweating helps to keep the skin unclogged, minimising the chances of breakouts and acne.
Exfoliation
Exfoliation is one of the most effective ways to get rid of dead skin cells and to keep the skin in good condition. Exfoliating must make it to your regular bathing regimen followed by dry oil or a rich moisturising cream or lotion within three minutes of towelling off.
Coffee Body Scrub
Makes 1 1/2 cups
• 1/2 cup finely grained sea salt
• 1/2 cup ground coffee beans
• 1/4 cup sesame oil
• 1/2 teaspoon eucalyptus essential oil
Take a small bowl and mix the salt, coffee, and both the oils together. Massage the scrub onto damp skin with long, firm, circular movements. It may take some time to activate the ingredients but the results are worth the effort. Rinse well afterwards. It will leave the skin moisturised feeling soft and smooth.
SPF Primer
Sunscreen is without a doubt the most important summer essential for your skin. If you are not one for sunscreens, these invisible, non-greasy primers can be a healthy alternative; Mac Prep + Prime Face protect lotion SPF 50, NARS Smooth & Protect Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 50 and Neutrogena Healthy Skin Primer with sunscreen, SPF15.
