Mango Research Station Director Abdul Ghaffar Garewal urged farmers to cultivate water loving varieties of the fruit near rivers and canals in order to enhance the overall yield.

Pakistani mangoes have a good potential for being exported due to its unique taste. Farmers are now taking an interest in cultivating new orchards in the region, he added.

White and seasonal chaunsa varieties are extremely popular internationally, he stated.

These are water loving varieties, from which the farmers and the country can earn a handsome amount of money, he expressed.

He also suggested that farmers adopt drip irrigation in order to tackle water shortage. He observed and noted the fact that many farmers were not aware about the water consumption of different varieties.

He advised them to contact experts to seek guidance on running and managing a mango orchard.
