FIR oversight: Peshawar gets online case management, monitoring system

PESHAWAR: The provincial government on Friday formally inaugurated its Case Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) at the Model District Prosecution Office in Peshawar.

This system for online prosecution will record data and then scrutinise it. The status of first information reports (FIRs) can also be checked online, a statement said.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Home Secretary Ikramullah Khan and Prosecution Director-General Adnan Zafar inaugurated the system.



The CMMS will now send a copy of every FIR lodged in the system directly to the district prosecutor, allowing for its online scrutiny. Moreover, it will allow for directives to be issued accordingly, the officials said.

This, they hoped, will allow prompt actions to be taken on FIRs since the home secretary and the prosecution director can both personally monitor FIRs.

Apart from ensuring swift action on FIRs, the system will also mandate that a challan is submitted within 14 days.



The system, they hoped, will improve the criminal justice system and make it more transparent in the process apart from saving time and making the process of accessing justice faster.

With Friday’s inauguration, the system has been launched in Peshawar, but officials say that the system will soon start formally working in the Malakand district.
