Man suspected of killing pregnant singer sent on remand

A man suspected of killing a pregnant singer early on Wednesday after she refused to perform at a Larkana event has been sent on a seven-day physical remand.

Samina Sindhu, who was married to a local musician, refused to stand while performing at a family function in the city. Suspect Tariq Jatoi allegedly shot her after.

Police have released varying statements on the incident. The Kanga SHO has been suspended for not making the suspect undergo a medical examination. The police official claimed Jatoi was inebriated when nabbed from the spot. The case was then transferred to Larkana DSP Liaquat Ali Abbasi.

The DSP told reporters the absconding man had been arrested. He pledged to carry out a transparent investigation. Abbasi said police will obtain event footage and ensure the suspect underwent an examination to ascertain if he was intoxicated.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has also taken notice of the incident.
