Eight arrested for malpractice in FCS Karachi

The corruption has incurred a loss of Rs343.796m to the national exchequer

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau Karachi arrested eight suspects on allegations of illegal appointment of 400 employees in the Fisherman Cooperative Society (FCS) on Tuesday.

The accused will be produced before an accountability court for judicial remand today (Wednesday).

NAB arrest accused in showroom scam

According to NAB Karachi’s spokesperson, the accused were nominated in reference No 2/2018 filed at an accountability court in Karachi, and have been arrested subsequent to withdrawal, recall of their pre-arrest bails by the Sindh High Court (SHC).

The spokesperson further added that the eight suspects are accused of corruption and malpractices through illegal appointment in the FCS of BPS-18 and below, between January 2014 to July 2017.

They were additionally involved in illegal awarding of fake contracts for construction work in the FCS and subsequent withdrawal of amounts by cash for personal gains.

Further, they are allegedly involved in the embezzlement in trash fish sale without auction, thereby causing loss to the national exchequer worth Rs343.796 million.

A total of 13 people were initially nominated in the reference, out of which, eight have been arrested while three were arrested earlier and two have been declared absconders.

The arrested suspects included ex-chairmen FCS Society, Nisar Ahmed Jan Memon and Abdul Saeed Khan, the ex-vice Chairman of the FCS, Sultan Qamar Siddiqui; ex-manager, Haji Wali Muhammad; ex-manager Finance, Shahid Hussain; contractor, Imran Afzal; ex-manager market, Riaz Ahmed and ex-manager Market, Amjad Iqbal Warraich.
