Five killed in Lahore bakery fire

At least five people were killed in Lahore on Tuesday when a bakery located in the Barkat Market area caught fire, reported Express News.

The fire broke out around 6:30 am on the ground floor of Garden Heights, a multi-storey plaza near Punjab University and spread to the offices and apartments located on the top floors of the building.

More than two dozen firefighting vehicles took part in the rescue operation, with emergency services using a snorkel to rescue ten people.

Five people rescued died due to suffocation while being shifted to Jinnah Hospital, while another person's condition was deemed critical.

Mayor of Lahore, Col (retd) Mubashir Javed visited the site of the incident.

The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Shahid, 30-year-old Talib, 25-year-old Shahbaz, 15-year-old Shakeel and a 28 year old unknown.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained but rescue services suspect a short circuit to be the cause.
