Couple uses 10-foot-long family alligator for gender reveal party of unborn child

Kliebert family spends most of their time with the prehistoric-looking creatures as they own 400 of them

A couple from Louisiana, United States decided to have a gender reveal party, that includes a special member of their family who’s a 61-year-old alligator known as Sally.

Mike Kliebert and Rebecca Miller spend most of their time with the prehistoric-looking creatures as they own 400 of them on their 23-acre farm, according to The Independent.

When they were curious to figure out the gender of their unborn child, Mike, or T-Mike, the Gator King and Rebecca thought it was only fitting if they get some help from the 10-foot-long alligator, which happens to announce the gender of the couple’s new baby boy by biting into a watermelon filled with blue slime.

“We wanted to incorporate the alligators, who are like family, into this big moment in our lives. I wouldn’t have had any other gator do the reveal. My grandpa hatched her in 1957,” Mike said.



A video that has gone viral on social media, Rebecca with her other family members and friends watches as Mike goads Sally into opening her jaws before placing the melon in her mouth.

It is quite obvious how the old gator seems to have a slow movement, many questioned just how safe the stunt was for Rebecca and alligator Sally.

While Peta’s vice president and deputy councel, Delcianna Winders reveals that this incident was just “exploitative”.

“Our response is that alligators are shy, sensitive animals who suffer tremendously when they are exploited like this for entertainment. We absolutely discourage anyone from using alligators in this way,” she said.

According to the animal safety organisation, the Kliebert family has a history of animal welfare violation but Mike denies of any crime or misconduct when it comes to the gators. He said, “Everything we do is Louisiana-regulated and we follow the rules.”



Mike stood with his views on Facebook while took a stance behind the reveal saying, “We are a world leader in the gator industry” and he “respects animals and understand alligators because it is my livelihood.”
