The bullet-riddled body of a friend of Naqeebullah Mehsud, who was murdered by former Malir SSP Rao Anwar earlier this year, was recovered from Karachi's Quaidabad area on Monday.

The body was recovered from a car in Quaidabad's Gulshan-e-Buner area, said SHO Muhammad Ali Marwat, adding that the deceased was identified as 40-year-old Amanullah alias Menal, son of Gulraiz from the Mehsud tribe.

He said Amanullah was the owner of the dumper trucks and the incident apparently occurred due to personal enmity, Express News reported.

The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Naqeebullah’s case: Rao Anwar given in police custody for one-month

Amanullah drove a Toyota Corolla and a 9mm bullet shell was recovered from the car. He was shot from behind, near the right ear which crossed the temple. He died on the spot.

The deceased was a resident of Zafar town area in Quaidabad.

SHO Marwat said the murderer was likely sitting in the back seat of the car as the wound suggested that the bullet was fired from close range.

The family members of the deceased said that they will lodge the case after the burial.

Initially, speculations were rife that he was killed because his acquaintance with Naqeebullah, however, no proof indicating that has surfaced yet.

In February, Aftab Mehsud - a man who participated in protest demonstrations demanding SSP Anwar’s arrest in Islamabad - was gunned down mysteriously in Dera Ismail Khan.

However, the DI Khan DPO later said that Naqeebullah’s family members had confirmed that Aftab was not a personal or family friend and he participated in the sit-in because it was a tribal issue.

SSPAnwar, who is a known encounter specialist in the Sindh police, surrendered to the apex court last week after evading authorities for nine weeks. He was remanded on Thursday by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) to police custody for one-month in the case of the young man's murder in a fake encounter in Karachi.

The former SSP Malir and his 10 arrested and 14 absconding subordinates were booked for allegedly abducting Naqeebullah on January 7 and killing him along with three others on January 13 after non-payment of ransom.

The suspended SSP and his team had also framed Naqeebullah and three other deceased – Mohammad Sabir, Nazar Jan and Mohammad Ishaq – in explosives and illicit weapons cases.
