GILGIT:

The three-day ‘Peace Culture Festival’, organised by the Gilgit Arts and Culture Council (GACC) in Gilgit continued on the second day (Wednesday), attracting a large audience who were enthralled by the music and poetry presented by local artists.

The festival in Gilgit City Park started on Tuesday and attempted to create a positive atmosphere in the otherwise strife-ridden capital city of Gilgit-Baltistan, which has seen a number of bloody clashes between rival sects in recent months.

“We want to reflect a society of mutual respect and understanding instead of strife and clashes,” said Imtiaz Hussain, an organiser who made announcements in the town using loudspeakers to attract a large crowd to the festival. He called on general public to play their role in peace building, while adding that GACC was determined to play its positive role in the society. Famous local artists presented their songs and poetry throughout the day at the festival, which was the first privately organised event of its nature in the state capital.

Apart from musical shows, a gemstone expo was also held in the festival, which ends today [Thursday].
