Bioequivalence lab: Experts discuss parameters

Facility to ensure availability of quality medicines at affordable price

ISLAMABAD: The committee constituted recently by Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz for setting up of bioequivalence and bioavailability laboratory in Pakistan, held its first meeting to discuss parameters of the lab and support required for its establishment in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by all the committee members, besides other prominent experts from the relevant fields.

Facility of international standard was urgently needed in the country to determine effectiveness of various medicines on the users as health care was an all-time essential need of the people.



The existing deficiency in the health care system need to be addressed as most of the locally produced drugs are at present not being subjected to Bioequivalence examination, denying information about the impact of such drugs on users.

The lab would be established with a futuristic approach in the terms of capacity and capability in view of the continuous scientific progress in the field. Besides providing quality medicines to the public at affordable price, the Lab would help in promotion of drug exports adding to foreign exchange earnings.

The five subcommittees set up for the purpose would examine and formulate the recommendations in their respective areas.
