Top officials pay last respects to slain Rangers soldier

He was martyred when armed militants ambushed Ranger personnel patrolling a Lyari neighbourhood

Funeral for a slain Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) soldier was held today at the 61 Wing Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers quarters in Karachi. His burial will take place at his ancestral graveyard in Lakki Marwat.

According to the spokesperson, the Rangers personnel was patrolling the Ali Muhammad Mohalla in Lyari late Tuesday night when militants ambushed the force with hand grenades and automatic weapons.

The attack claimed one Rangers soldier's life who died after receiving fatal bullet injuries in the exchange of fire. Five militants were also killed in the operation.

Top officials paying respect at the slain soldier's funeral included Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Shahid Baig Mirza, Sindh Interior Secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez, Rangers Director General (DG) for Sindh Major General Muhammad Saeed, among others.

He was also flanked by Sindh Additional Inspector General Mushtaq Mehr at a funeral.

Addressing participants at the funeral, the DG Rangers praised the young officers for their bravery during the operation.

He further issued directives to improve the peace and security situation in Lyari, urging the residents to cooperate with the Rangers and the police force.

Major General Saeed asked residents to promptly use the helpline and call at 021-99205257, 021-34389559, 021-32630100 and 1101 for any tips on the Lyari gang absconders.

Following the funeral, the DG Rangers visited the Civil Hospital where he met the injured Rangers personnel and praised them for their service.

Four Kalashnikovs were also recovered from the possession of the militants that were killed. All of them belonged to the Ghaffar Zikri group.

Sindh governor and chief minister condemned the attack and directed the inspector general of police to submit a detailed inquiry report on an immediate basis.
