The Greek Expedition

Wafa Fahad flies us to Greece!

Wafa Fahad March 05, 2018

Travel is therapy, so just pack your bags and go! Last year was a crazy year of travelling for me and my childhood dream of visiting Greece was fulfilled

Athens

Athens was our first stop. Although I had heard mixed reviews, my husband and I loved this historical capital. Our visit to all the historical sights left me intrigued about Greek history.

Things to do in Athens:

Take the red hop on/off bus. It is the best way to explore the city and see all the sights.

Visit the square markets – Plaka and Monastiraki Square.

Dine at any roof top bar to see the sun setting over Acropolis. We had drinks at “A for Athens” and highly recommend it.

Hike Mount Lycabettus and get a bird’s eye view of this ancient city.

Eat the best ever falafel wraps at Falafellas (Not to be missed!) and of course enjoy frozen Greek yoghurt, salad and gelato available on every street corner.

Santorini

Santorini is the island of blue–domed churches, narrow passageways with incredible views of the Agean Sea, beautiful terraces that winded between the white-washed cycladic buildings and pretty little corners that are oh so Instagram worthy.

An ideal trip to Santorini should be a minimum of three days. The island is divided in four popular parts: Fira (the capital and the main port area), Imerovigli (best Caldera view, quiet, romantic), Oia (gorgeous sunset, famous blue domes, windmill, picturesque) and the Black Beach. Oia is quiet by night and more ideal for couples and honeymooners. Oia is more lit and happening. You can either fly to Santorini or take a high speed ferry from all major Greece ports.

Things to do in Santorini:

Hotel stays with Caldera view in Imergovigle or a hotel on Oia cliffs.

Santorini Volcano Tour and Oia Sunset Cruise.

Watch the sunset from the famous Oia castle or reserve a seat at any bar to avoid crowds.

Walk or hike the Caldera Path (either from Imerovigli to Fira or  Immegvil to Oia).

Eat at the Amoudi Bay – Fresh catches there are sold in kilos but will be one of the best you ever had.

Rent an ATV - I didn’t do, as it was a bit scary for me to be driving on the cliff.

Must try Eateries:

Ammoudi Fish Tavern

Niko’s Place

PK Cocktail Bar

Pelekanos Restaurant Bar

Lolita Gelato

Mykonos

Mykonos is famous for its beautiful white sand beaches and nightlife. My advice to readers and followers will be to always go to Mykonos first. For us it was the perfect end to out itinerary because we wanted to just relax the last two days before heading home. We booked a stunning hotel on the beach which also had a five-star restaurant. We enjoyed a delectable breakfast on the beach veranda and delicious dinner menu in candlelight setting under the stars overlooking the sea.  The access to the main village was just 10-12mins in the local public bus from right outside the hotel. You can also rent ATV scooters and explore the island on your own.
