KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) dismissed on Wednesday the bail request of the chief executive officer (CEO) of a private solid waste management company in a Rs27.9 million fraud case.
The bail plea of Asif Bashir Farooqi was rejected by a two-judge bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto. Farooqi had sought pre-arrest bail in connection with a case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The petitioner informed the SHC that he was the CEO of Ice-Pak, a private firm that collected solid waste in the metropolis. The court was informed that the FIA had accused the company of submitting a fake pay order along with the bid for the award of contract for lifting garbage in the city.

The pay order worth Rs27.9 million was found to be fake, the agency alleged. Subsequently, Farooqi was arrested and is currently in jail.
Farooqi moved the bail application through his lawyer, Abid Shahid Zuberi, who contended that his client has been in jail for a long time. The bench was informed that the FIA investigation officer had failed to submit a charge-sheet against the applicant, who had been behind bars for a long time.
The lawyer pleaded to the court to grant post-arrest bail to the applicant. However, the judges observed that there was no merit in the plea and dismissed the bail application.
