Health minister says aim is to enable them to work with utmost dedication

Following the Supreme Court orders, the Balochistan government on Tuesday took the first step in clearing the outstanding dues worth Rs1.4 billion of lady health workers (LHWs) pending for the last two years.
Minister for Health Abdul Majid Abro distributed cheques among the LHWs of Quetta. Details as to how much amount was disbursed were not available.

The dues of LHWs of other districts of the province would be cleared within a month, sources told The Express Tribune.
“Our aim is to provide LHWs all the facilities required to perform their duties with utmost dedication,” said the health minister while addressing a ceremony held at the National Programme for Family and Primary Healthcare Balochistan on Tuesday.
Additional Secretary Health Abdul Rauf Baloch, Programme Coordinator Dr Samiullah and other officials were also present on the occasion.

"Payments are being made through direct accounts in order to avoid mismanagement and enable workers to perform their duties more effectively," said the health minister.
He appreciated the role of LHWs in rendering their services bravely for the betterment of the province and laying down their lives for the greater good of the people.
He also urged the LHWs to remain on stand-by in case of any untoward situation.
Balochistan to be purged of fatal diseases: minister
“Balochistan is the first province that has made 7,500 LHWs permanent,” he said. They were made permanent four months back.
"Initiatives regarding implementation of primary health programme will be approved soon,” Abro said, adding that the programme would help improve health facilities across the province.
On the occasion, the LHWs were provided medicines, kits and vehicles.
He said that the provincial government was ensuring adequate supply of medicines at hospitals and clinics to facilitate the people.
