Bollywood superstar Sridevi Kapoor, considered by many to be one of the biggest names in Indian cinema, has died after suffering a heart attack in Dubai.

The shock death of the beloved Indian star in her mid-fifties, who reportedly passed away while attending her nephew's wedding in the emirate late Saturday night, prompted an outpouring of grief among fans and fellow Bollywood actors.

Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayappan, Sridevi made her acting debut aged just four, and went on have a career spanning over four decades.

She appeared in a string of blockbuster hit films including Chaandni, Mr India, Judaai and Chaalbaaz.

She was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, for her services to the film industry.

Here, we take a look back at her career and life in pictures.

The actor started her career at the mere age of four, and continued to act as a child artist in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.

She made her Bollywood debut as a child artist in the hit Julie (1975) and played her first adult role at age 13.

She later starred in numerous Bollywood hits.

Known for her expressive eyes, and stellar performances, Sridevi is said to be the 'first female superstar' of Bollywood.

Her one of the most memorable performances throughout her career, was Anil Kapoor starrer, a 1987 movie, Mr India. She was then known as the Hawa Hawai diva, courtesy to one of the songs in the movie.

After Mr India, the power couple shared the screen, yet again, this time in 1997, in Judaai, which also starred Urmila Matondkar in titular role.

Previously married to Bollywood's another huge star, Mithun Chakraborty, Sridevi tied the knot with Indian cinema's bigwig producer, Boney Kapoor in 1996.

The couple had two daughter, Janhvi and Khushi, 21 and 17, together.

After staying out of movies for 15 years, the starlet made a comeback in 2011 with Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish.

She was then seen in Adnan Siddiqui and Sajal Aly's Bollywood debut, Mom. The movie also starred critically acclaimed actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna.

Just a day before the news of her sudden demise broke, Sridevi was seen attending a family wedding in Dubai.
