Government wants to ban Priyanka Chopra for her risque photoshoot
The dress she wore as a tourism company’s ambassador has sparked quite the controversy
Superstar Priyanka Chopra is the brand ambassador for Assam Tourism and as the ambassador, she did a shoot for the company’s calendar, reported NDTV.
However, the actor is in hot waters for her choice of outfit for the shoot. The dress she wore for the company’s calendar shoot has been deemed inapt. In the State Assembly on Monday, Congress MLAs, Nandita Das and Rupjyoti Kurmi expressed concern over the star’s dress and claimed the outfit to be inappropriate and immodest in keeping with the tradition of Assam.
The MLAs went on to demand that Priyanka be removed as the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism. “The government should preserve the respect of the Assamese society. Frock is not Assamese attire and the calendar pictures were not sober at all,” said Kurmi.
He continued, “The government should have known how to preserve the prestige of the Assamese society; instead, they could have used the traditional mekhela sador. This is the reason we have protested against the calendar.” He also believes that Priyanka should be replaced with a “talented Assamese actor.”
However, the MLAs’ claims were dismissed and the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) failed to see any issue about the unnecessary controversy. Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah stated, “The calendar was made to promote Assam internationally. It has also been sent to prominent international tour operators and dignitaries. Priyanka Chopra is an international figure and her presentation in the calendar has not diminished Assam’s culture in any way.”
