FIR filed against Indian actor Priya Varrier for 'hurting Muslim sentiments'
Actor has quickly become a social media sensation thanks to her expert winking skills
Priya Varrier, the face that has been plastered all over social media for her expert winking skills in the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi has become everyone’s crush this Valentine’s Day.
But that's not the only reason the Oru Adaar Love star has been making headlines.
A man from Hyderabad, India, has filed an FIR against Priya and the makers of Oru Adaar Love for allegedly ‘hurting Muslim religious sentiments,’ reported Pinkvilla.
After the song went viral, the young man decided to search the lyrics out of curiosity. Upon translating it into English, he found that the song spoke about Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in a derogatory way and thereafter reported the matter to the authorities.
Manikya Malaraya Poovi has been composed by Thalassery K Refeeque and recreated by Shaan Rahman with Vineeth Sreenivasan. The video shows two high school sweethearts exchanging shy glances with each other.
Talking about becoming an overnight sensation, Varrier said that it has been an overwhelming experience. “I am very happy but I don’t know how to handle so much love. It’s completely surreal. I’m falling short of words trying to express myself. I never expected this.”
Oru Adaar Love is peddled to be a romantic-drama, directed by Omar Lulu. It features Varrier alongside fellow-newcomer Roshan Rahoof and will release next month.
