'Kashmir impasse is a political issue which must be solved through negotiations'

MUZAFFARABAD: The international community must take notice of the atrocities India is carrying out in held Kashmir, said Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production Chairman Abdul Qayyum.

Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad on Thursday, he said that the Kashmir impasse is a political issue which needs to be resolved through dialogue.

"The region shall never see lasting peace until a solution is found to the Kashmir issue," Qayyum added.

Pakistan, he said, stands with our Kashmiri brothers and will continue to raise their cause on every platform.

"The international community needs to know that the people of Kashmir have the right to self-determination under the universal declaration of human rights and resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,"Qayyum reaffirmed.

"More than 100,000 people have been killed and over 8,000 cases of enforced disappearances in held Kashmir since 1989," he added.
