Groups of lawyers on Wednesday held a number of protests across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa over the US killing of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, denouncing America and offering prayers for their ‘hero’.

About 70 lawyers staged a rally in Abbottabad, condemning the US operation in their city, witnesses said. They shouted ‘Go, America Go’, ‘Osama bin Laden is our hero’ and chanted slogans against US allies and the Pakistani government.

“We condemn terrorism but cannot accept any violation of our sovereignty,” said Tahir Faraz Abbasi, president of the local bar association. In Peshawar, about 200 lawyers offered special prayers at the courts.

“Osama was a Muslim hero. He had been waging jihad for Muslims across the world,” said prominent local lawyer Ghulam Nabi.

“I doubt Osama was in Abbottabad. Even if he was, he was our hero and he will remain our hero,” he said.

Sukkur Saheb | 10 years ago | Reply I will hear if some respectable person speak to me. But these lawyers are parasites on the society. They beat the judges, police, and litigants and pour roses on the murderers. These fellows are equal to Taliban if not more. These rogue elements will not speak when eighty young cadets are killed in Charsadda by brutal Taliban. Lawyers, shame on you.
fahad aziz | 10 years ago | Reply The govt. should immediately revoke the licenses of these religious savages, they don't deserve to call themselves lawyers, they support mass murdereing religious psychos & then expect to be allowed to pretend to protect law. our government should come out of its fear & take on all the people holding this country hostage in the name of religion. The govt. should cancel the degrees & licences of all doctors, engineers, lawyers, bankers who support religious barbarity. These people are influential in society & spread their diseased attitudes & values throughout our society. it's time the government took these mazhabi junoonis to task.Enough is enough ,we've suffered to much at the hands of religion.
