Without gas, residents feel the wrath of winter in Quetta
Gas shortage has also resulted in an increase in prices of alternative fuel
QUETTA:
Citizens of Spini Road, Killi Daiba Tarkha and surrounding areas have gone weary of unannounced gas outages. The population of thousands has been left with no option but to burn wood. With an increase in the intensity of winter, the prices of wood have also been jacked up. The gas shortage has also resulted in an increase in the prices of alternative fuel. This situation has left the citizens in a miserable condition.
Residents Muntazir Khan, Muhammad Amir, Manorio and others of the affected areas told a team of the Express that gas pressure is reduced every year before the arrival of winter.
Balochistan shivers from cold spell
They said that they tried to bring their plight to the attention of the concerned department by constantly visiting the Sui Southern Gas Company office but to no avail. They further told the survey that gas pressure which decreases early in the morning is restored late at night and that too for just a few hours. The residents also reported that gas pressure remains low 24 hours on severe cold days. As the elders and children shiver due to the severe winter season, women too face numerous difficulties in completing their daily household chores.
The residents further added that their buying power has been depleted by constantly buying expensive fuel as an alternate to gas. They demanded from the concerned authority to take notice of the issue and resolve it on emergency basis.
