LAHORE: Talking about the recent Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s protest in Lahore Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif said ‘political clowns’ from across the country had gathered on the Mall Road to stage a farce. The major players of the farce were those who had looted the country with both hands.

After laying foundation stone of Bab-e-Pakistan project here on Sunday, the chief minister criticised his opponents. Shehbaz said Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was known for his corruption whereas Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan was a master of accusing others. Both Zardari and Khan had disappointed people of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Shehbaz observed if PML-N got into power in 2018 general elections his party would bring Karachi and Peshawar at par with Lahore and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Baluchistan with Punjab. “If people of Pakistan express their confidence in us we will build Peshawar Metro Bus in a year’s time. Niazi Sahib is busy in making false allegations and has no time for positive thinking,” he said.

Sharif said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had summoned him. He would not only present himself but will also present all facts before the media to show real face of the NAB. “It does not matter that false allegations are being levelled against me. If corruption of a penny is proved against me I will go home.

It is beyond the capacity of the NAB to recover money from corrupts,” the chief minister claimed.

Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation stone of Bab-e-Pakistan, almost 33 years after the national monument was originally envisioned at the site of one of the biggest Muslim refugee camps established after partition in 1947. This project at Walton area, Lahore Cantonment is divided into two phases and expected to be completed by 2020.
