Three Malir policemen suspended over ‘manhandling, extortion’
Newly-appointed SSP Malir Adeel Hussain Chandio takes action after a video of the incident surfaces
KARACHI:
At least three police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were suspended late on Saturday night by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Adeel Hussain Chandio.
The newly-appointed SSP Malir took action against the policemen posted at the SITE Super Highway police station after a video surfaced online of a young man allegedly manhandled by them in an attempt to extort money.
A departmental inquiry has been launched against the accused cops.
Previously, SSP District Kamber in Shahadkot, Chandio was transferred and posted as SSP District Malir on January 20 after Sindh Police suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar for his alleged involvement in the ‘extrajudicial’ killing of Naseemullah, alias Naqeebullah Mehsud, on the recommendation of an inquiry panel that has also asked the government to place the police officials name on the exit control list (ECL).
