Road accidents: Nine die, 652 suffer injuries in last 24 hours

390 victims were discharged on spot after provision of first aid by medical teams

LAHORE: At least 910 road traffic crashes were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which nine lives were lost and 652 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts and tehsils.

However, around 390 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on spot after provision of first aid by the Emergency Medical Teams. According to the data provided by Rescue 1122, 442 drivers, 21 underage drivers, 142 pedestrians and 467 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics showed that 188 RTCs were reported in Lahore Control Room, which affected 198 persons placing the provincial capital at top of the list followed by 87 RTCs and 99 victims in Faisalabad and 72 RTCs and 85 victims in Multan.

The details showed that in total 1,051 victims were affected by road traffic crashes from which 816 were males and 235 were females. Age group of the victims showed that 156 were under 18 years of age, 622 were between 18 and 40 years and the rest of 273 victims were reported above 40 years of age. According to the data, 726 motorcycles, 127 auto rickshaws, 90 motorcars, 43 vans, 11 passenger buses, 33 trucks and 95 other types of auto vehicles and slow moving carts were involved in the accidents.
