Verification of voters in Pindi starts Monday

New and deceased voters will be checked first

RAWALPINDI: A door-to-door voters’ verification process is set to kick off in Rawalpindi district from Jan 15 (Monday).

According to the Rawalpindi District Election Commissioner office, arrangements for the drive have been finalised and efforts would be made to complete the verification campaign by April 30.

Earlier, the campaign was scheduled to start from December 15 but was postponed.

Currently, there are over 2.95 million voters registered in Rawalpindi district including 1.57million men and 1.37 million women.

The new voters would be registered and the names of the people who have died would be removed from the electoral list.

As many as 29 assistant registration officers and 2,221 verification officers have been assigned the task.

Sources told the media that the first phase of the drive, verification of new NIC holders and deceased voters would be completed during January 15 to February 8.

Data entry of verified new NIC holders and deceased voters and adjustment of affected census blocks at district level with the assistance of NADRA (if required) would be completed within 10 days from February 9 to 18.

Data processing and printing of updated electoral rolls would be completed within 15 days from February 19 to March 5 while the verified voters’ lists would be displayed at the display centres to be set up at prominent places including offices of registration officers, offices of assistant registration officers and display centres at circle level in the district for around a month from March  6 to April 4.

40 days would be given from March 6 to April 14 for disposal of claims or objections and applications for corrections which can be submitted until April 14.

The final lists would be displayed on April 30 at the office of District Election Commissioner.

During the campaign, special focus would also be on registration of women, persons with disabilities and transgender.
