KARACHI: In another shocking incident, a five-year-old student was allegedly assaulted by the guard at her school, MF Grammar High School, in the Ibrahim Hyderi neighbourhood of Karachi.

Sources told The Express Tribune that the minor was assaulted, on Friday, in the premises of the school located near Benazir Chowk. And as news of the incident spread like wildfire, angry residents from the locality surrounded the school and protested.

According to Express News, the violent crowd locked the staff of the school in the staff-room and chanted slogans against the school administration. In a bid to deal with any untoward incident, a heavy contingent of police and, later, the Rangers was called in.

The school administration confirms that such an incident had "never taken place before" and they "guarantee that a proper investigation into the matter will be carried out."

The admin further stated, "the culprit will be given a very strict punishment for the harassment."

Talking to the media, the school principal claimed she was attached to the students and had such incident taken place, she would have been the first person to know about it.

"The mob which ransacked the school building was not accompanied by the parents of students," she said adding that the relatives of the child kept asking her to recall what happened.

This case came to light as Pakistan enters it's third day of mourning the rape and subsequent murder of eight-year-old Zainab in Kasur.

The streets of Kasur were filled with the stench of burning tyres on Wednesday as residents voiced their anger and outrage at the news that little Zainab, who went missing on Saturday, had been found – raped, dead, and buried in garbage.

A visibly upset rickshaw driver broke his stunned silence to tell The Express Tribune that it was the eighth incident during the last five years, but instead of arresting the killer, the police had only picked up innocent people randomly “as is their routine practice”, since the very first incident was reported.

“This is madness. For God’s sake, just find the killer, whatever it takes,” he pleads as a defeated expression takes over his face.

As the rickshaw driver confirmed, this was not an isolated incident. Over 720 incidents of sexual assault have been reported in Kasur within the last three years.
