Girl raped, killed in Sargodha a day after Kasur tragedy

Another girl has been subjected to rape and murder in a Punjab town only a day after the news of abduction, rape and murder of an eight-year-old  in Kasur shook the nation.

Body of the victim, identified as 16-year-old, was recovered from an agricultural field in Bhalwal tehsil of the province’s Sargodha district on Thursday, Express News reported.

S* had gone in the fields for daily lavatory needs in the morning, as is the norm in the rural areas of the country, where unidentified men strangled her to death after subjecting her to rape, said the victim’s father.

According to police, the body has been shifted to a nearby hospital, where a postmortem will be performed to reveal further details of the brutal incident.

They said a first information report (FIR) of the incident has been lodged and investigation was underway.

The incident has come to fore a day after two people were killed, allegedly by police firing, as enraged residents attempted to storm the deputy commissioner’s office after the news of a brutal murder broke in Kasur.

Two others were injured in the clashes that brought the Kasur city to a screeching halt.

Uproar on mainstream and social media had led to DPO Sheikhupura Zulfiqar Hameed’s suspension, sou motu notices issued by the chief justices of the Supreme Court and the Lahore High Court, and condemnation from all corners including civilian and military leaders of the country.
