High court halts district council notification
A writ petition filed had challenged the election
ABBOTTABAD:
A circuit bench of the Peshawar High Court has suspended orders issued by the presiding officer notifying the successful candidates elected on the special and reserved seats of Abbottabad District Council.
A writ petition had been filed by PML-N District Councillor Nadeem Mughal and Havelian Tehsil Nazim Arsal Pervez had challenged the election.
The election was held after 21 members of the Abbottabad district council and Havelian Tehsil were de-seated for defection. Ex-district nazim Sher Bahadar and others had challenged the ECP order de-seating them.
The former nazim fought a long legal battle against the order, but last month, the Supreme Court upheld the ECP’s order.
Mughal and Pervez, in their writ petition argued that elections for three members of the Abbottabad district council and for one seat in the Havelian Tehsil had been held without completing the strength of the district council.
