Strict Action: PFA campaigns against low-grade food

LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) continued its campaign against adulteration, manufacturing and sales of substandard food products on first day of 2018. PFA food safety officials seized over 23,000 litres of unwholesome oil extracted from animal fats. On a tip off, PFA officials seized the oil by installing picket at the entry point of the provincial metropolis, Thokar Niaz Baig. The oil was handed over to a bio-diesel manufacturing company as per provision of the law and a case has been registered against the culprits. The authority has seized over 18,000 kilogrammes of substandard spices and butter. Moreover, PFA food safety officials discarded the vegetables harvested with sewerage water on an area of 160 kanals in Faisalabad area. A similar action was taken in the outskirts of Okara where vegetables over 144 kanals were discarded. PFA Director General Norrul Amin Mengal said that such oil causes cancer and stomach diseases.
