KARACHI: Deciding on provision of security for Christmas eve, Inspector-General of Police (IG) Allah Dino Khawaja ordered the deployment of commandos in and around churches in Sindh. Chairing a meeting on Thursday, the IG directed all DIGs in the province to start snap-checking and patrolling around churches to deal with any untoward incident.

Karachi Additional IG Mushtaq Mahar, all DIGs of Sindh and representatives of Counter-Terrorism Department's special branch also attended the meeting.

"Please finalise the contingency plan and implement it in letter and spirit," said the IG while directing his subordinates.

"After the Quetta incident last Sunday, we have to be careful because these terrorists can take advantage of any security lapse," he said appreciating the efforts of the police in giving security to Prince Karim Aga Khan and the spiritual leader of the Bohra community.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, while speaking to the media on Tuesday, said that the government will implement the security plan devised for worship places of minorities. "We are going to award tenders for installing closed-circuit television cameras and make other necessary arrangements for the protection of minorities' places of worship," he said.
