Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday announced to start a movement for the restoration of justice in the country, said Express News.

Nawaz Sharif was speaking to media representatives in Islamabad while leaving for the Punjab House from an accountability court, hearing references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Sharif eyes public sympathy after new verdicts

“We will start a movement for the restoration of justice in the country like we initiated a movement for the restoration of the judiciary once,” Nawaz Sharif told reporters.

The former prime minister, who was disqualified by a Supreme Court bench on July 28 this year said, “A country can only progress if justice is the supreme force in it.”

“Imran Khan has admitted that he owns an offshore company but even then you can see the difference in judgement of the cases,” said Nawaz while giving a reference to the apex court judgement in which petitions against Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking his disqualifications were rejected.

Imran escaped disqualification but party general secretary Jahangir Tareen was disqualified in the December 15 SC order.

“The double standards in the judgements should be checked, said Nawaz and added that “such double standards are the murder of justice will not work.”

“Rigging of the favourite is ignored but a serving prime minister is sent home,” he complained. “We are not mad that we accept such decisions.”

Accountability court seeks details of Nawaz’s credit entries

Earlier today, the former prime minister along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-and-law Captain (retd) Muhamad Safdar appeared before the accountability court as it continued to record statements of witnesses in the references filed by the NAB.

The accountability court had granted an exemption to Nawaz from attendance until December 11, while his daughter Maryam was exempted until December 15.

NAB references: Safdar also seeks court exemption

According to Express News, this was the 10th appearance of Nawaz Sharif before the court today while at least 16 hearings have so far been conducted in the Flagship Investment and Avenfield Properties cases. Meanwhile, the court also sought details of credit entries of Nawaz Sharif during the hearing today.

During the hearing today Manager Operations of a private bank in Lahore, Yasir Shabbir recorded his statement in Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference and gave bank account details of Nawaz and Maryam. At least eight witnesses have already recorded their statements.
