It’s time for innovation, urges PU VC

Says these ideas can serve national and society

LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir called on students and faculty members to work on innovative ideas which could serve the country and society in general.

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of the International Conference on Solid State Physics, which was organised by the PU Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics (CSSP). Former GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khaleeq ur Rehman, CSSP Director Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem, international delegates, researchers from various academic institutions of the country and a large number of students were present.

There were 20 keynote lectures delivered by experts from the UK, Denmark, Brazil, Italy, Turkey, Germany, China, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Around 60 invited talks were given by researchers from UK, Germany, Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said it was one of the basic responsibilities of universities to serve humanity through the creation of fresh knowledge. “We must bring positive change in society through innovative projects.” He appreciated Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem on taking several initiatives in the centre and successfully organising the conference.

Prof Naseem said that the conference had provided an excellent opportunity for researchers and students to interact with each other and share ideas and experiences.

He said more than 500 papers were presented at the conference with around 250 posters. “This is an unprecedented number in any of the conferences in Pakistan.”

Seven labs inaugurated at Punjab University

He said that selected papers from the conference will be published by five IF journals associated with the conference. He said there were two symposia held during the conference; one on WUN - Spin and the other on diagnostics for life sciences.

Later, lifetime achievement awards were presented to former professors of the centre and souvenirs were presented to international delegates, guests and conference organizers. Financial support was provided by the HEC and PHEC, while GCW University Sialkot and Abbottabad University of Science and Technology were co-hosts.
