After the rain comes a rainbow

Temperature to decrease further after light drizzle, says Met dept

Our Correspondent December 14, 2017

The city witnessed a pleasant spell of drizzle on Wednesday as clouds unexpectedly formed over the sea. The rain pushed the mercury down to 11°C. Various parts of the city, including Korangi, Defence, Sharae Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, witnessed the first drizzle of the winter season. The roads became slippery as several motorcyclists suffered minor injuries.

The drizzling left behind a rainbow with a combination of sunlight and cloudy weather. In many areas people were able to enjoy the scenic nature as it was early in the morning and children were heading to schools while their parents made their way to work.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, there are different reasons for the emergence of the rainbow. Once the rain or drizzle ends, it increases the level of moisture in the air by more than the usual limit. This is the time when a layer of water droplets in the sky reflect light from the sun, resulting in the dispersion of sunlight into its original seven colours.

Karachi to be engulfed in 'extremely cold' weather

According to a forecast by the Meteorological department, the temperature is likely to decrease further in the next 24 hours. “The current light rain system is spontaneous. The winds blowing from west still have cooling effects of rains,” the met office said, adding that they were intercepted by southern winds which led to the formation of clouds.

Humidity reached 50% as haze and drizzle continued to persist across the city. The ensuing winds from the west is said to develop into a rain system, resulting in periodic showers in different parts of the country, especially Sindh and Balochistan. According to estimates, temperature in Karachi may reach as low as 9°C today (Thursday).
