KARACHI:

Malir Judicial Magistrate Aslam Shaikh remanded the men accused in the Ghas Mandi club bombing case to police custody for questioning till May 2.

The police claimed to have arrested Mustafa Rehman Orakzai alias Yaqoob Commando. According to the remand request submitted on Tuesday, he was arrested after the police conducted a raid on a tip-off.

The police also found 20 kilograms of explosive material, two hand grenades, a rocket and a TT pistol in possession of Orakzai.

The police said he belonged to a new but unknown group called Tanzeem al Mukhtar and they need physical custody to track down other members of this group.

The Birch Club in Lyari was targeted on April 21 and the remote-controlled bomb left 19 people dead and dozens injured. The police believed the club was targeted because its owners refused to pay extortion.
