OPC eyes more investment by expats in Pakistan

MoU signed to create awareness among overseas Pakistanis

LAHORE: Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Punjab and World Congress of Overseas Pakistanis (WCOP) UK has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance mutual cooperation and facilitate expats.

The MoU was signed during an event organised by WCOP in Central London, UK. OPC Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti and WCOP Chairman Syed Qamar Raza signed the document representing their organisations.

OPC Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti said the MoU was meant to create awareness among overseas Pakistanis about the identification of their problems and resolution through different government departments.

He said both the organisations were working for the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and to increase the safety of their investments back home. “Both parties desire to cooperate with each other to achieve their shared objectives of serving expatriates.

He said overseas Pakistanis have great potential to contribute to the development and progress of the country. According to the MoU, OPC would facilitate expatriates in lodging their complaints in appropriate the manner and try to resolve such complaints through arbitration in overseas Pakistanis committees, thus avoiding lengthy proceedings.

OPC would also help expats by following up on their cases in various courts of law for their swift resolution. Afzaal Bhatti said WCOP would hold seminars and workshops for awareness of overseas Pakistanis and would establish contact with them through social media, magazines and electronic media etc.

“It will also sensitise the overseas Pakistanis on the working of OPC and its complaint resolution process. WCOP will help OPC to organise road shows in various countries and will encourage and guide the expats to make investments in Pakistan. WCOP will provide its platform for projection of mandate, activities and achievements of OPC,” concluded the OPC Commissioner.
