Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari issued the directive in a meeting held on Friday, according to a statement. Chief executive officers of distribution companies participated in the meeting via video link and senior officials of the Power Division and Pepco were present.
The minister told Pepco to write a letter to boards of directors of all distribution companies, asking them to strictly monitor the performance of their respective companies and take strong action according to existing rules against those failing to meet the set target.
He urged the directors to play their role as described under the law and corporate governance rules and assured them that the Power Division would take all steps to strengthen the boards.
Leghari said non-performing chief executive officers of distribution companies should be shown the door if they were not able to reach the goal assigned to them by the next review meeting slated for mid-December 2017.
Govt may sack heads of poorly performing power firms
In a bid to assess the ability of the CEOs, Pepco would set targets and develop key performance indicators.
The minister emphasised that only performance and merit would prevail and those working hard must get the chance to serve people. "The dynamics of power sector must change 180 degrees and according to the aspiration of consumers."
He pointed out that consumer service and facilitation was the central point of the CEOs' performance and all other indicators like controlling losses and improving recoveries must be associated with it.
"No political, personal or other kind of influence will work anymore," Leghari declared and told the CEOs that those looking for such means should find some other venues.
