State-of-the-art school built in Rehri Goth

Project completed at a cost of Rs13m

KARACHI: A purpose-built school, that will enrol over 400 students of an impoverished locality of fishermen in Karachi, was completed in four months and will be formally inaugurated on November 18. The school, located in the Rehri Goth area in Bin Qasim Town, will provide education to both male and female students.

The Green Crescent Trust (GCT) is credited to have complete construction and management rights of 165 schools all over Sindh in the last 21 years, mostly in remote areas of the province. GCT is also behind the construction of this school and will be responsible for managing it as well.

The construction of the building is part of an effort to upgrade an existing charitable school to uplift both its civil infrastructure and academic facilities. Once the school is upgraded, the number of students enrolled will be increased from 281 to over 400 while the number of teachers will be doubled from 15 to 30.

The construction cost of the new building came to a total of Rs13 million, which was paid entirely in donations collected by the GCT. “With this school now fully-equipped and ready to enrol children of Rehri Goth, we try our best to set an example to build, adopt, and upgrade educational facilities for fishermen communities in Karachi and other towns of Sindh,” said GCT Chief Executive Officer Zahid Saeed. “For this noble purpose, we are ready to work with the government or any bona fide non-governmental organisation.”
