ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has recommended to the Ministry of Health that two medical colleges should be closed.

These colleges include the Abbottabad International Medical College (AIMC) and the Jinnah Medical College (JMC) in Peshawar.

According to PMDC president, the council, after considering recommendations of its inspectors, had unanimously decided that the two colleges should be recommended for closure on an immediate basis and the federal government will be told to de-notify the college and a scheme for adjusting the students would be decided within a week by a Committee constituted by PMDC.  AIMC had gross deficiencies while the attached teaching hospital was nearly 48km from the college.

The college was told about the deficiencies. But after a six-month-long deadline from the executive committee, the deficiencies were not rectified.

JJMC too did not fulfil the minimum criteria of PMDC.

Moreover, seat allocation of Pak International Medical College in Peshawar was cut from 100 to 50 for MBBS after considering the recommendations of inspection reports.
