LAHORE: City Traffic Police have prepared a plan to educate traffic wardens in computer use so that the force can work in a paperless environment.

Computer courses, spanning up to four weeks, and arranged by the Punjab Information and Technology Board (PITB), started at the Arfa Karim IT Tower on Monday.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Rai Ejaz Ahmed said the purpose of the exercise was to introduce a paper-free working environment at all offices of CTPL. These will include the work spaces of the traffic office chief, SP traffic offices, 36 sectors, training schools and traffic police lines.

Wardens passing out after completing the computer courses would be appointed as duty officers, ticketing officers and at other important branches. CTPL was also working on the provision of computers and other necessary devices for the traffic sectors.

After the introduction of the system, duty rosters will be made and delivered online. Order books will be digitally prepared on a daily basis and traffic programmes would also be delivered online. The record of challans will also be computerised.

Ahmed said that the step will not only save time, but the expenditure on papers, photocopies and deliveries etc. “Paperless working was also environment friendly,” he added. “This will also help them maintain records and evaluate the performances of wardens,” he said.
