PPP protests increase in petroleum prices across Sindh

KARACHI: A large number of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers came out on the streets on Sunday in Karachi and other parts of Sindh to protest against the recent hike in the price of of petroleum products.

Following the call from PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the protests were announced the day before by the party's central information secretary Chaudhry Manzoor.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the increase in fuel prices announced by the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government, the PPP workers held demonstrations in front of press clubs and other places all over Sindh including Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmore and Tharparkar.



"It appears that the PML-N government wants to create chaos and punish people," said PPP MPA Saeed Ghani while addressing party workers in front of the Karachi Press Club.

Addressing the protesters in different cities, the PPP leaders thanked Bilawal for mobilising the workers even in the remotest corners of the country. A large number of women also participated in the protests carrying banners inscribed with slogans against the PML-N government condemning the increase in petroleum prices and terming it 'victimisation of the people'.

"The PML-N government has thrown the petrol price increase bomb at every Pakistani household and everyone is going to be adversely affected by this," said a PPP leader of the Karachi division.

In a statement, Bilawal had said the PML-N government was pursuing a 'casino economy' while the poor were being squeezed as prices of utilities had gone through the roof. People are suffering but rulers are singing 'all is well', said the PPP chairperson. Bilawal demanded immediate withdrawal of the increase in petroleum prices, announcing that the PPP would hold protests on a wide scale if the federal government did not give in to the demand..

Following his directives, the PPP issued a countrywide call for protests against the price hike on Sunday.
