Two women arrested for thrashing polio workers

Police arrested two women for allegedly thrashing and manhandling a polio team in the district on Thursday.

The police said that a polio team, including one male member and two female members, visited the area of Sultan Khar to administer polio vaccination to children under five years of age.

When they reached a house in the area, a woman identified as Kausar refused to get polio vaccine administered to her children.

When the polio team tried to convince the woman, she allegedly misbehaved with them and slapped one of the lady health workers.


In the meantime, the accused called another woman and both of them allegedly thrashed the two female polio workers. Meanwhile, when the situation worsened, the polio team called the police which reached the spot and arrested both the women.  The police said that both women were in their custody and further investigation was underway.

Earlier, Faisalabad police registered a case against a man on charges of thrashing and obstructing a polio vaccination team from administering drops to children in Chohar Majra.

The police said that Ali Dawood, a sanitary patrol of union council No 281 and a lady volunteer Rehana Kausar were performing duty in the area and asked about the children of Abdul Sattar.

In the meantime, a man identified as Abdul Rehman hit them with his car and also thrashed them. He also threatened the polio team with dire consequences and warned them not to visit the area again.  Later, the police registered a case against the accused.
