HYDERABAD: In the case of the assault of a polio team, a Hyderabad court granted on Wednesday bail to three brothers accused of the offence. Citing bailable offences in the FIR which contained sections 34, 186, 353 and 504 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the civil judge and judicial magistrate, Juned Ahmed Memon, refused the police's request for a 14-day judicial remand of the suspects.

Muhammad Saeed Qureshi and his brothers, Muhammad Shahid Qureshi and Muhammad Faisal Qureshi, had allegedly manhandled a polio team in the Heerabad area of Hyderabad on Tuesday. A lady health worker in the team, Shamim, and another member Naveed Khaskheli complained to the health officials that Saeed allegedly assaulted them when they tried to persuade him to allow the administration of polio drops to his children.

An FIR was lodged at the Market police station after which the police arrested the accused who were produced before the court on Wednesday.

The district administration played down the incident as a one-off, pointing out that the area being an urban locality did not have the history of refusal of polio drops.

Each accused will have to submit a solvent surety of Rs15,000 or he will be sent to jail till November 14.
