Experts call for equal opportunity, social harmony

Greenwich conference highlights diversity, equity for an inclusive society

An international conference titled "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Mainstreaming Diversity and Equity for Inclusive Growth" was held under the auspices of Greenwich University in collaboration with the Sindh Higher Education Commission on Saturday.

The opening session emphasised the importance of diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusive social development. Speakers stressed the need for fair treatment of all segments of society, particularly marginalised communities, and called for stronger measures to ensure their full participation in nation-building. Participants also highlighted the importance of consistent policymaking for minority rights, women's participation, and interfaith harmony.

The session began with a visual presentation outlining the university's history, academic journey, standards, and teaching performance. It also showcased research work across various departments, its impact on society, and the institution's professional linkages with industry experts, alongside student community engagement initiatives. It was noted that the university, over its three-decade history, has an alumni network of around 5,000 graduates.

Speaking on the occasion, Head of Diversity and Equity at Greenwich University, Aisha Ali, said the institution brings together students from diverse backgrounds across Pakistan and other parts of the world, making it a strong example of inclusion. She said students are encouraged to build confidence, share their experiences freely, and engage with diverse idea - even if they do not necessarily agree with them - so as to broaden their understanding.
