Rangers arrest 10 suspects, including member of banned militant outfit

KARACHI: A suspected robber was killed during an alleged encounter with the police in the SITE area on Monday, while the Rangers claimed to have arrested at least 10 suspects including the member of a banned militant outfit.

According to police officials, police encountered during routine patrolling two robbers on a motorcycle mugging people near Habib Bank Chowrangi in the SITE area. An exchange of fire took place between the suspects and the police, resulting in the death of one of the suspects. His accomplice, however, managed to flee the scene under the cover of fire. The police also claimed to have recovered a pistol from the deceased suspect. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi and later to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for want of identification.

Separately, an alleged member of a banned militant outfit was arrested by the Rangers during a raid conducted on a tip-off in the Gulberg area. The suspect was identified as Saad alias Dry. According to the Rangers spokesperson, he was affiliated with the Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan. The paramilitary force claimed that the suspect was involved in firing on the Rangers personnel in New Karachi as well as target killings, extortion and forced closure of shops in 2012.

Four more suspects were arrested by the Rangers during separate raids in parts of the city, including Gulberg, Jamshed Quarters and Saddar. The suspects arrested were identified as Hassan, Ajab Gul, Sajid and Adeel. According to the paramilitary force, they were involved in various cases of street crime and mobile snatching.

Meanwhile, five more suspects were arrested by the paramilitary force during raids conducted in different localities, including Darakshan, Jamshed Quarters and Awami Colony. The suspects were identified as Abdul Munaf, Muharram Ali, Jan, Feroz Khan alias Sarwar and Mazhar Hussain alias Raja. The Rangers spokesperson claimed that the suspects were involved in drug peddling and huge caches of arms, ammunition and narcotics were seized from their possession.
