With dulhas experimenting with new trends this season, it’s time brides take a back seat. From donning opulent oversized layering shawls fit for a monarch, to rocking Game of Thrones style beards, men are more self-aware than ever before. The finest part about the modernistic groom styling though, is the inclination towards retro fashion.
Churidaar pajamas
Pajamas that are skillfully snuggling the calves are back! Emitting Lucknowi vibes, churidaars are most definitely not just for the ladies. They’re a regal supplement to a modern groom’s ensemble, and they’re surprisingly comfortable – minus the extra weight of all that dense fabric holding you back. A pair in classic white, muted gold or beige should do the trick. If you’re raring to be a stately groom, it should now be obvious what to team that kurta with.
‘Game of Thrones’ style hair and/or beard
The hipster trend of bragging a bushy beard and a longish mane would normally be considered a little scruffy – but the modern groom is all about not trying too hard and essaying an easy- going look. So if you’re reaching for the razor pre-wedding, you might want to think again. A new study published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology has confirmed that men with beards are considered to be more attractive compared to those who are clean-shaven. Want more motivation? Facial hair, in fact, helps accentuate jaw size and thus widens the face - thereby making for jaw-dropping wedding snaps!
Shorter sherwanis and kurtas
While passé groom styles still very much exist, the modern dulha is all about sporting shorter kurtas and sherwanis. Think a couple inches (or more) above the knee. Not only will this style lengthen your frame, making you appear taller, but you can now accentuate your sophisticatedly tailored churidaars too. It’s a style that’s, in fact, reminiscent of the nawabs and what better day to pull off such attire than on your wedding day!
Layering oversized shawls
Draping shawls with precision is a trend that will most certainly make waves this wedding season. Majestically wrapped around from shoulder to the side, oversized shawls not only look traditional but also dapper and highly up-to-the-minute. Textiles ranging from velour to jamawar – that too elegantly embroidered - and the right kind of draping is a flattering addition, if not a style-staple, to any dulha’s wardrobe. And you can go all experimental with colours too; be it ivory or fuchsia, they all work - without dampening the masculinity factor.
