The Centre Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved Rs2.5 billion for Special Protection Unit (SPU) force for Gilgit-Baltistan after which 700 people from all districts of G-B would be recruited soon on merit. Talking to the media people, the G-B Inspector General of Police (IGP) said Rs280 million would be spent on purchase of equipment for the SPU force and its personnel would be trained by the top institutions of the country. The IGP said residential buildings and offices for the SPU would be constructed at Gilgit, Hunza, Diamir, Skardu and this project would be completed in two years, adding SPU force was raised for protection of CPEC and non-CPEC projects in G-B. The force would help eradicate unemployment and enhance capacity of G-B police besides protection of CPEC and Non-CPEC projects.
