SHEIKHUPURA: A man allegedly died due to police torture on Wednesday.

Saddar police chowki Nagina resident Arshad was accused of kidnapping a five-year-old girl eight days ago and was in jail.

On Wednesday, Arshad was brought to the hospital in critical condition.

His brother Amjad said that the investigation officer Mian Ayub had been paid Rs5,000 by his family not to torture Arshad while he was imprisoned.

“They did so anyway. He was bruised beyond recognition,” Amjad said.

A murder case has been registered against Ayub on the complaint of Arshad’s widow.

Meanwhile, the abducted girl’s father said that he had implicated their neighbour Irfan for kidnapping his daughter, but police had arrested Arshad over a personal vendetta.
