Twice Bitten: 8 ill from milk of cow bitten by dog

8 members of family hospitalised after they consumed milk from a buffalo that was recently bitten by a rabid dog.

SHAKARGARH: Eight members of a family were hospitalised after they consumed milk from a buffalo that was recently bitten by a rabid dog.

Due to the unavailability of a vaccine in the public hospital the family was shifted to a private health facility on Wednesday. Relatives of the family protested against the THQ hospital administration on Wednesday. Sarhadi village Bera resident Nazir’s buffalo was bit by a rabid dog. The family consumed the affected buffalo’s milk and fell ill. Following this they were shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital in Shakargarh. Later they were shifted to a private hospital as the government hospital had no vaccine. The family has demanded that the Health Department ensure the availability of the rabies vaccine in government hospitals.
